Momos are one of the most loved street foods these days. Also known as Dim sum they are soft dumpling made with flour and stuffed with veggies and sometimes paneer. They are popular amongst the Northern states of India and now is becoming popular in other Parts of the country as well. They are easy to make and tastes delicious. This Tibetan recipe requires minimum efforts and can really make your day. You can make changes in the stuffing as per your needs and preferences ,I kept it simple and traditional.
Introduction
This recipe is simply made by kneading a soft dough and then stuffing them with seasoned veggies of choice. They are then shaped in form of dumpling and steamed until they turn glossy on the outside. They are then enjoyed with Tibetan momo sauce which again tastes so yummy. The pair goes well with coke and will surely satisfy your taste buds in all possible ways. Ingredients
Spring onions or onion- 1/2 cup (finely chopped)
Carrot- 1 cup (finely grated)
Capsicum- 1 cup (finely diced)
Beans- 1 cup (finely diced)
Ginger- an inch
Garlic – 8 to 10 cloves
Green chillies- 2 to 3
Sugar- 1 teaspoon
Salt- as per taste
Black pepper- 1/2 tablespoon
Refined flour-1 cup
Salt- as per taste
Oil- 2 tablespoon
Water- as per requirements
Step by step recipe with images
Stuffing:
1) Heat a pan with 2 tablespoon of oil.
2)Add a tablespoon of chopped garlic in it.
3)Add 1/2 tablespoon finely chopped ginger in it.
4)Add a tablespoon of chopped green chillies in it.
5)Cook them for a minute on medium flame until it turns aromatic .
6)Add 1/2 cup chopped spring onions or onions in it and stir well.
7)Now add a cup of finely chopped beans in it.
8)Add a cup of chopped capsicum in it.
9)Add a cup of grated carrots in it.
10)Stir them well and cook it on medium high flame for 2 minutes.
11)Now add 1/2 tablespoon of sugar in it.
12)Add salt as per taste.
13)Stir them well and cook them for another 2 to 3 minutes.
14)Now add a tablespoon of black pepper in it.
15)Stir them well and cook them for a minute. Turn off the flame and your stuffing is ready.
Dough:
1)Take a mixing bowl and add a cup of refined flour in it.
2)As salt as per taste.
3)Add a tablespoon of oil in it.
4)Slowly mix them with your hands.
5)Now add water to knead a soft dough.
6)Gently knead the dough with your palms.
7)Your dough is ready. Rest it for an hour for better results.
Shaping and steaming:
1)Take a small portion of dough.
2)Roll it into a thin chapati using a rolling pin.
3)Now cut out small circles with the help of a cutter or mould as shown above.
4)Now add 1.5 tablespoon of stuffing in each circle.
5)Shape the momos as shown above.
6)Heat a kadhai with 1.5 cups of water by placing a stand on it.
7)Now place a steaming plate on top.
8) Gently place your momos on the plate. Make sure there are gaps between the momos so as to prevent sticking with one another.
9)Cover it with the lid and steam them for 10 to 12 minutes on medium flame.
10) Once the shiny sheen appears over it, your momos are perfectly ready to for consumption.
11)Finally, your yummy and delicious steamed momos are ready. Enjoy them with sizzling momo chutney and coke.
Tips and Tricks
1) Chop the vegetables finely.
2) Don’t over season the stuffing. Mild stuffing makes it yummier.
3) The dough must be soft.
4) Do rest the dough for an hour before shaping the momos.
5) Don’t overstuff the momos
6) You can shape the momos as per your choice.
7) Make sure you seal them properly.
8)Preheat the steamer for best results.
9)Steam them until you see a shiny gloss on the momos.
Healthier Version
1)You can use wheat flour instead of refined flour.
2) You can add more veggies of your choice.
3) You can add paneer in it if you want.
